Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge

If you are a bird lover, you won't want to miss Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, a 10,000-acre wildlife preserve that provides habitat for over 300 species of birds. Located at the north end of Cayuga Lake, the refuge is a vital stopover for migratory birds along the Atlantic Flyway. You can observe a variety of waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors and songbirds from the wildlife drive, trails and observation platforms throughout the year.

The refuge offers environmental education programs and exhibits at the visitor center, as well as guided tours and special events. You can also explore the history of the Seneca people and the Erie Canal at nearby sites such as Ganondagan State Historic Site and Seneca Falls National Historical Park.
